It’s Time To Move Forward

Introduction: Why Sit Here Until We Die?

Have you ever felt stuck—trapped between where you are and where you need to be? Maybe fear, doubt, or uncertainty has kept you from making a move. If so, you’re not alone.

In 2 Kings 7, four leprous men sat at the gate of a famine-stricken city, caught in an impossible situation. Behind them was hunger and despair; ahead of them was the enemy’s camp. Yet, instead of giving in to fear, they asked themselves a powerful question:

"Why are we sitting here until we die?" (2 Kings 7:3)

That single question changed everything. It led them to make a move, and when they did, they discovered that God had already gone ahead of them—the enemy had fled, and their breakthrough was waiting.

This story teaches us a critical lesson: Faith requires movement. Too often, we allow fear, past failures, or uncertainty to keep us stagnant. But like the lepers, we must develop an Explorer Mindset—the courage to push forward despite fear, trusting that God has prepared the way.

1. The Greatest Hindrance to Breakthrough: "What If?"

One of the biggest obstacles to progress is the fear of the unknown—the endless "what ifs" that paralyze us.

The lepers faced three options:
1️⃣ Do nothing and die in their current condition.
2️⃣ Go into the city, where famine and death awaited.
3️⃣ Surrender to the enemy—where they had at least a small chance of survival.

The only option with a chance of breakthrough was also the riskiest one.

This same dilemma plays out in our lives. Think of:
🚪 Moses at the Red Sea – faced with an impassable barrier but commanded to move forward.
👑 Esther before the king – risking her life to save her people.
🌾 Isaac in famine – sowing seeds when the land was dry, yet reaping a hundredfold.

The truth is, the most dangerous-looking opportunities often lead to the greatest rewards. If God is calling you forward, don’t let the fear of "what if" stop you.

2. Move Forward Even When It’s Scary

When did the lepers finally move? At twilight.

Why is this important? Twilight is a time of transition—between night and day. It wasn’t the "perfect time," but it was their moment of revelation.

Paul captured this principle in Galatians 2:2:
"I went up by revelation."

🚀 Before the Apollo 11 moon landing, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin knew they might never return.
🛫 The Wright Brothers faced ridicule before their first flight.
🏕️ The four lepers risked everything, only to find that God had already cleared the way.

How many times have we delayed our next move because we're waiting for the "perfect" conditions? If God is revealing something to you, it’s time to move.

3. Take the Risk—God Can Use What You Have Left

One of the most powerful lessons from this story is that God doesn’t need much—He just needs your obedience.

Even when all hope seems lost, God can work with what you have left:
🍞 A little boy’s five loaves and two fish fed thousands.
🏺 A widow’s small jar of oil became an abundant supply.
🐎 The last five horses in the city helped confirm the miracle.

What is it that you still have but are afraid to trust God with? Your skill, your resources, your time, your faith?

Instead of withholding it, offer it to God and watch Him multiply it.

Conclusion: The Mindset of an Explorer

To see breakthroughs, we must develop the mindset of an explorer—someone who moves forward despite fear, uncertainty, or risk.

Here are five key lessons from the lepers’ journey:
Move forward despite fear.
Take calculated risks with faith.
Step into the unknown, trusting God’s provision.
Share what God has done.
Trust in something greater—trust in God.

Your Turn:
What bold step is God asking you to take? What have you been sitting on, afraid to move forward?

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Move in faith today.
